We spend so much on skincare products which sometimes don’t even workout the way they’re supposed to. Since it’s summer, we all have our share of tans and sunburns. Lemon juice is known to not only make one refreshing drink for the season, but to lighten and exfoliate the skin as well. There are many ways to use lemon juice for skincare and facial care, so let me just share to you the stuff that I have tried.
Lemon and Honey Facial Mask
What you need to do is cut a lemon in half, squeeze it into a bowl and add two tablespoons of honey. Mix it well. Apply the mixture generously onto your face using your hands or a cotton ball. This can be a messy one, so make sure to tie your hair back. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse it off.
Unlike other non-edible facial masks, you don’t need to worry if it gets in your mouth because you could just lick it off. Haha.
Lemon and Sugar Facial Scrub
Simply mix equal parts of lemon juice and sugar. Teaspoons of each should be enough. Scrub it onto your face, avoiding the eye area. Wash it off with water, and viola! You’re face will feel smoother and softer. Slap me if I’m wrong. But I doubt I would be. ;)
The frequency of using lemon juice for facial care varies on different skin types. Because lemon juice is photosynthetic in nature (I’ve read this somewhere), it makes your skin sensitive to the sun so make sure you wear sunscreen when you go out. Exposing your skin to the sun when you’re in lemon juice treatment without sunscreen will only darken your skin.
For simplicity’s sake, you can always just rub lemon on your skin especially on your knees and elbows to lighten those parts. It can be itchy, but it would be worth it. I regret not doing this when I was younger. My mom always forced me to do it but I didn’t like the itchiness.*sigh*
When life gives you lemons, cut it in half. Use the first half for your face/body, and the other half for a yummy lemonade! Haha.
